Donald and Daffy - 'Shake Pal!'

I began watching a whole bunch of Disney back in January when I took a trip to China. I had already been aware of my love of classic Warner Brothers cartoons since I grew up on them... but I had never been aware of the Disney prowess because... well, being in Canada, we didn't GET the Disney channel.

Anyway, it all started with me watching Ducktales... then I got myself started on Disney shorts (mainly although not exclusively limited to Donald Duck) and the rest was history.

I had already seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Incredible movie. Go watch it. Now!) And it always bugged me that Donald and Daffy never got to share more screen time. (Although with things the way they are now, I don't think I want them to. I don't want to see such awesome characters ruined.)

For those who are wondering who I like better, Daffy or Donald... there is absolutely no way for me to choose. I love them both and attempting to compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Donald's got the punk attitude and short temper and Daffy's got his whole, "WOO-HOO! HOO-HOO!" routine. (Yes, I grew up on daffy Daffy although you might want to argue that I used serious Daffy in this picture. Don't worry. Future images of them will have them bugging EACH OTHER.)

Anyway, this is my first attempt at drawing Donald and Daffy. (My first time drawing Donald. My first time drawing Daffy.) I think they turned out decent. I'm aware that I made Donald's buttons on his sailor suit too big... and that Daffy has tons wrong with his anatomy.

Personally, I always imagined Donald to be smaller than Daffy. (Darn black and white cartoons having Donald at like... half Mickey's height. Geez. And who's taller? Mickey or Bugs? I'm going to go out on a whim here and say Bugs.) With that said, I didn't want to make Donald TOO small... (I am aware that they made Donald taller in later shorts.) So... I attempted to make him about half a head shorter... so at least there's some kind of distinction height-wise.

As everyone knows, Donald is copyright to Disney. Daffy's copyright to Warner Bros.
